This California Air Tools Ultra Quiet & Oil-Free 1-HP compressor is great for DIY or job site uses. The low 1680 RPM operation creates less noise & wear than 3450 RPM consumer grade compressors.
It has an amazing 3000+ hour life cycle before wear, while comparable units are 500 hours or less. The 60 dBA sound level is ideal for indoor use where noise is an issue & the 8.5 low amp draw works on most household outlets.
The SP-Series is perfect for all sorts of tools such as brad nailing/stapling, drilling, finish nailing, hobby nailing, inflation, roof nailing. This little compressor can handle the toughest jobs without any problems.

An Excellent Product For The Money!

I've had the chance to use it for a while now and I've been very pleased with every aspect of the California Air Tools SP Ultra Quiet & Oil-Free 1 HP 5.5-Gallon Steel Tank Air Compressor. It comes out of the box ready to use. I only had to install a small muffler on the compressor which was very easy to do. There's nothing complicated about using it and the instructions are clear and concise. From unboxing to up and running was about 5 minutes. I've owned similar air compressors and I can say this one is very well built and solid. The picture makes it seem as though it's large and a bit unwieldy but I was pleasantly surprised it was in fact small enough to handle with ease and a perfect size for stashing it in a small cubby or corner in my shop. As advertised it is quite and with the large air tank you can do a lot with it before the compressor needs to kick in to refill it which itself is a very good reason to invest in this tool. Most air compressor setups come with small or moderate air tanks and if, like me, you do a lot of work that means the compressor is always running. The large air tank on this unit cuts down on run time, like a lot, and with it wear and tear and that translates directly into longer compressor life. When the compressor does kick on the tank refills quickly before cutting off, which again translates into longer compressor life. Bottom line, for the money you won't find a better compressor/air tank set up anywhere, in my opinion. I heartily recommend this to anyone who needs a solid air compressor set up.

Awesome Compressor
By Rick H.

Review Posted 02/02/2020
This compressor replaced a pancake compressor that had become unbearably loud. I am so impressed with how quiet the California Air compressor is. In spite of the fact that it is so quiet I didn't give up any performance.

Overall satisfaction for me. I firstly turned on the lever and surprised at the quiet sound this air compressor has. It is so fastly ready to use and again it's amazingly quiet. I have heard other compressors from a friend of mine, the noise was too much to stand. I am so satisfied and happy I can use it inside.

Retired, 40 Years Construction Experience
By Pat M.

Review Posted 12/21/2019
Compressor is very quiet. Too early to tell how it will hold up. Ask me again in 6 months. This is my fourth personal compressor. Own a big bore cast iron Makita, this unit is my indoor need unit because it is quiet. Had 5-gallon big-box pancake unit. I hated moving it around, it was so heavy and very noisy.
Retired three years ago. At 68 my age is catching up to me. The weight and noise difference is considerably noticeable. Reliability rating: it's too soon to tell.

This came right on time. Is super quite and loses no air over time. So you don't have it switching on and off all the time. It also fills up pretty quick. Overall an excellent purchase that I wouldn't hesitate to make again
